Omakase at Umaku Sushi Resto, Duren Tiga

On a shiny Saturday during the rainy season, Food Escape and I had an amazing and impressive Omakase lunch together at the Umaku branch in Duren Tiga, Pejaten area.

I noticed that many sushi lovers are praising about Umaku Sushi Resto. It is not only about the high quality of the freshness fish for the sashimi and sushi but also the affordable price for their famous Omakase.

Frankly speaking, this was my first time Omakase experience. Thus, sitting at the Omakase counter is an educational and fun experience for me. I must admit that the fresh and high quality of the ingredients with a twist at Umaku Sushi Resto totally impressed me.

Chef Syaiful
Talking to and learning from Chef Syaiful, definitely gives a personal and intimate experience. 


The Omakase comes first with salad, followed by sashimi (4 servings), sushi (7-8 servings), yakimono (1 serving), nimono (1 soup), ginzaro (1 handroll), and dessert.

Sop Ayam Pak Min Klaten in Bekasi


A couple days ago, I was in Bekasi area (suburb of Jakarta) together with my colleagues for a survey. At lunch time, we were confused where to have our lunch. We went first to Tsamar Resto but it was closed because of the fasting month. So, we decided to try to find a fast food chain around that area, but good thing, we passed this famous "Sop Ayam Pak Min Klaten" before we reached the fast food chain and luckily, this restaurant which is famous for the chicken soup and green color for its restaurant was opened.

"Sop Ayam Pak Min Klaten" was established for about 50 years in a small city called Klaten, Central Java. The most branches are located in Yogyakarta, Central Java. It is famous for the chicken soup. Customers can order the 

On the table, quail eggs on skewers, intestine on skewers, fried tofu, fried soy bean cake and potato fritters were available on each table.

For the chicken soup, customers can choose which part of chicken they would like to have in their soup, i.e: breast, thigh, neck, wings, feet, head, skin, intestine, gizzard and heart.

It's so affordable and the chicken soup was tasty.

Hoshino Tea Time at UOB Plaza Thamrin Nine


Hoshino Tea Time just opened at the Food Bare in the basement of UOB Plaza Thamrin Nine for about two weeks. Hoshino Tea Time is selling tea from Ten Ren Tea Company and also some snacks. Ten Ren Tea Company is the largest and best known manufacturer in Taiwan for over 40 years and the branches are not only in Taiwan and Indonesia but also in the USA, Australia, Canada, Japan, Malaysia and Singapore. 

Customers also can buy the premium Ten Ren's Tea products:
Ten Li Oolong Tea Wooden Box (12 bags)  - Rp. 3.800.000

 Jasmine Green Tea - Rp. 60.000

I tried the Ice Green Tea - Rp. 23.000 (Medium size) 
with Aloe vera and Boba toppings - @ Rp. 4.000.
The Green tea is actually Jasmine tea, famous tea made from Green or Pouchong (Chinese Green) tea leaves that are scented with jasmine flowers. Very fragrant and tasted strong.

Depot Es Durian Nan Salero


My colleague mentioned to me about a place, selling really good Soto Padang and Durian ice in Grogol area. We finally went to this small restaurant named Depot Es Durian Nan Salero last Thursday. Oh my... I couldn't be more happy when I tried the Soto Padang and Durian ice, so good! I definitely will come back again to this place for more! :)

The aroma of cinnamon in the beef broth was so lovely.
The fried beef accompanying the soto Padang was so crunchy.

New Signature Dish Menu at Shang Palace, Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta

Last Saturday, I had a chance to try the new signature dish menu at Shang Palace, Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta. 

I was introduced to Chef Christopher Chai - Executive Chinese Chef who created the 10 new signature dish menu. Chef Christopher Chai from Ipoh, Malaysia and has been with Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta in 2008 as Chinese banquet chef then promoted an the Executive Chinese Chef in Edsa Shangri-La, Manila before he joined back again Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta in late 2014.

Here are the four out of ten new signature dishes presented by Chef Christoper Chai that I tried and enjoyed all of the taste.

Deep-fried Prawn Coated with Corn Flakes
