Restoran Rendevouz

A few weeks ago, I met my former teacher. We haven't met for such a long time. The last time, I was in her class, it's 16 years ago! Whoaaa... Couldn't believe how the time flies so fast!

My former teacher brought me to this Chinese restaurant named Restoran Rendevouz, a quite popular restaurant in the old days that located in the Central of Jakarta.

We ordered their main famous dishes:

Lumpia Udang (Shrimp rolls) Rp. 55.000
A wonderful tasty dish of fried shrimp rolls, crispy on the outside and soft yet firm on the inside. Served with the sweet sour dipping sauce.

Bakmi Ham (Fried Noodles with ham) Rp. 37.500
The fried noodles came with fried ham, chunk of meat, fried eggs and vegetables. It's delicious and full of flavor.

Es Pala (Nutmeg ice) Rp. 9.000
The Nutmeg ice is actually sweet pickled nutmeg served with crushed ice and syrup. It's a refreshing drink, tasted sweet and sour plus added with the crunchiness texture of the nutmeg.

I really enjoyed this reunion lunch with my former teacher. We definitely managed to catch up stories from each others and had some good laughs :)

Chung Hae - Sashimi & Sushi

It's been so long the craving for Korean food but not until the night before my birthday this year, I finally had the chance to eat at a Korean restaurant. I was so lucky when a friend of mine invited me to join a gathering in a Korean restaurant. Although this Korean restaurant doesn't really served many authentic Korean food; it offers more Japanese food but still, I was so delighted and grateful to be able to eat in this restaurant for the delicious dinner, besides I considered it as my birthday present :)

In this Chung Hae restaurant, there are several set menus available. My friend chose a set menu that adequate for 5 people and cost more than USD 60 plus tax and service charge.

S'more

The last evening at the summer camp, we had a bonfire in the woods.
Well, a bonfire in the USA wouldn't be perfect without S'more, right? ;) This popular American dessert is absolutely a must during a bonfire.

Preparing the marshmallow in a long metal skewer.

Marshmallow ready to be roasted.

Roasting the marshmallows.
Making the S'more.

How to make S'more:
- A layer of chocolate
- Roasted marshmallow.
to be put between
- 2 pieces of Grahams crackers

A ready to eat S'more.
The soft marshmallow with the "almost" melted chocolate inside the crunchy crackers.... Yummmm... it's yummy! All the children were so happy to eat it, too bad, there's no second round.

Adobo

I couldn't blog for the last 2 weeks, not because I'm out of town or too busy but the reason is I didn't have my computer. The hard disk "crashed because the power supply got burnt. Good thing that the hard disk is still under guarantee :)

So, while I didn't have my computer, I had a chance to make Adobo - the popular Filipino dish which is a stew of marinated meat in a sauce of garlic and vinegar. The Filipino leader made it during the Philippines' national night at the camp. She used the instant seasoning mix and shared one sachet to me.

Adobo
I think I should make it a bit more dry but I really like to eat the Adobo sauce with rice. It's savory and also fresh from the sour taste of the vinegar.

If you can find the seasoning mix, then you can try this below Adobo's recipe that I got from the Philippines' leader.

Adobo recipe
In a pot, saute 1 kilo of chicken or pork with 2 tbsp of garlic, 1/2 cup vinegar, 3 bay leaves and 1 tbsp of black peppercorns.
Add 2 cups of water.
Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer.
Serve with rice and enjoy!
