Chinese New Year royal icing cookies

It's almost Chinese New Year! :)

This year, Chinese New Year's Day will be the same day as the Valentine's Day on the 14th of February.

I've made butter cookies and royal icing, with the Chinese New Year's theme and full of red color (red is an auspicious color, symbolic of joy) .

Those are popular Chinese characters used during Chinese New Year:

吉 Ji - lucky, auspicious, propitious

和 He - harmony

財 Cai - wealth, money

喜 Xi - happines

福 Fu - good fortune, good luck, blessing

Chinese boys and girls are wearing red costumes.

Fish (魚, read: yú) is a significant symbol sounds like the word for riches or abundance .

  23. Hey Selba, thank you for dropping by to say hello :). During the last 2 months I just had no motivation to blog, that's why there're no updates, but now I have 1 week holiday, I think I am going to update my blog more regularly. And yes, Chinese New Year is coming... it will be very quiet here though, even though 15th Feb is Fasching here and everyone is going to get crazy and drunk - what a fantastic tradition...;-)! Your cookies are lovely as usual!:)

  36. Dear Selbysfoodcorner, these cookies are awesome!!! Love how you used icing to put Chinese symbols on them. I have never seen anything like it! Very artistic, and like how you used red, which symbolizes joy. There are some wonderful shots of the cookies. Very professional and I will definitely be back to have a bite of more.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Cheers, Gaby
