SunnyHills Pineapple Cake

Finally, after waiting for quite some time, my package from SunnyHills arrived.

SunnyHills - popularly known also as Feng Li Su (鳳梨酥) is a specialty bakery, offering authentic pineapple cakes that are traditionally sourced,made, and baked in Taiwan. It has nearly 50 years of bake-house experience but established with the name of SunnyHills in year 2008.

All the ingredients being used are the finest chosen ones without additives or preservatives. The pineapples are sun-ripened which organically grown in Taiwan and took 18 months to reach its full flavor. Each pineapple only can be used to make six to seven pineapple cakes. The other finest ingredients are natural New  Zealand  butter,  Japanese gourmet flour, and  the  healthiest  red plump‐yolked  eggs  from local  farm.

I really like the bag and box design. The moon and  the rabbit are cute. I think SunnyHills pineapple cakes will become a nice gift for family and friends, even  for Muslim friends since it certified halal. 

For the serving size, one serving of this SunnyHills pineapple cakes is actually enough despite how delicious it tastes. The filling of the pineapple paste is very good, not too sweet and combined with a nice tangy taste. The buttery crust is rich and smooth. 

SunnyHills pineapple  cakes  are  air‐flown  from Taiwan to  Singapore.

Otel Lobby


The interior of this restaurant resembles like a hotel's lobby area.

During the Ramadan month, Otel Lobby held a daily quiz on Twitter for winning a plate of Beef Wellington. One of the winner is JenzCorner. So, the day after she won the quiz, she invited me to join her to Otel Lobby. She was so kind to share her winning prize with me. Thanks, Jenz! :)

Perfect to be eaten with the creamy mashed potato.

It's a nice change, having mashed potato to beet puree.

I like the sweet sour Pineapple sorbet.

Taiyo Sushi


Yesterday, I attended OpenRice Food Blogger Gathering at Taiyo Sushi. It's located in Pluit, North Jakarta.

Inside the restaurant. 

The interior of this restaurant is quite nice, simple and bright. There's a section for conveyor belt sushi in the middle of the restaurant.

Chawan Mushi - Rp. 12.000
We started with the soft  delicious Steam Egg Custard. I think it's a great way to start the lunch. 

Then followed with
Tempura Maki (Ebiko/Floss) - Rp. 22.000
Shrimp Tempura rolled with Ebiko/Floss. Pretty good but I prefer without the floss.

Then, there were four other fusion sushi brought to the table.

The specialty of the fusion sushi at Taiyo Sushi is the raw fish on the sushi. It will be heated for just a few seconds with a torch to get a smokey flavor. Frankly speaking, the taste of all the sushi being served on the table was the same because the dominant taste of mayonnaise. Thus, it's quite hard for me to tell there's a smokey flavor from the fish except if I ate it separately from the rice and the filling of the sushi.

Unagi Salmon Special - Rp. 54.000
Unagi and cucumber topped with Salmon and Tobiko. I wish I could taste the Unagi inside the sushi.

Spicy Salmon Fry - Rp. 26.000
Spicy Salmon with Spicy Mayo.

Aburi Mozzarella Roll - Rp. 56.000
Crabstick, Tamago topped with Salmon Mozzarella and Chicken Floss. I hardly could taste the Mozzarella.

Taiyo Special Roll - Rp. 52.000
Salmon and Cucumber, topped with Aburi (half-broiled) Salmon.

Kare Pasta - Rp. 45.000
Beef Fettucine with Kare Sauce. Nice and creamy but a bit too sweet and spicy for me.

Chocolate Chips Cookies with Almond


I love eating American chocolate chips cookies. Why I love it? The simple reason, it got a mixture of soft, chewy and crunchy texture. So far, I think all the chocolate chips cookies here in Indonesia are just crunchy. They are lack of the softness and chewiness which I think are the best parts of chocolate chips cookies.

I have a chocolate chips cookies recipe from my American grandma. And today, I baked! Strangely, the cookies came out flat. I'm not so sure why. They are not like the ones my grandma and I baked in the USA. Anyway, these cookies tasted yummy, seriously! Just give it a try :)

Recipe:

Ingredients: 
2 1/4 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 tsp. salt
1 cup butter
2 eggs
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup chocolate chips (I only used 1/2 cup)
1 cup chopped almond (optional, can also use other kind of chopped nuts)

Directions: 
Combine flour, baking soda and salt in small bowl.
Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla in large bowl.
Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, gradually beat in flour mixture.
Stir in chocolate chips and nuts.
Drop by rounded tablespoon onto ungreased baking sheets.
Bake in preheated 375 degree oven for 9 to 11 minutes or until golden brown.
Let rest for 2 minutes.
Remove to wire racks to cool.

Rasane Seafood


My ex-colleague wanted to treat me seafood for dinner. The Rasane Seafood restaurant became his option because of the famous smoked Crab.

Fresh morning glory with crunchy texture but too spicy for me.

Smoked Male Crab
Kepiting Jantan Biasa - Asap  5.40 ons Rp. 113.400

Cooked with 17 spices then wrapped in banana leaves then smoked on flaming charcoal. Mostly people love eating this smoked crab. I like it but for me, it's nothing really something that I would shout about it.

Shrimp with salted egg
Udang Peci Telur Asin   Rp. 35.000
It's nice to try something different than the ordinary fried battered shrimp.

Starbucks Autumn Blend 2012

For this Autumn season, Starbucks is launching their "Autumn Blend" coffee beans. It's a blend of coffees from Sumatra and the Antigua region of Guatemala. Expertly roasted to create a full-bodied brew with subtle spice and nuances of herbs, lemon cedar and cocoa.  It tasted earthy, herbal with a hint of lemon.


This Autumn Blend was created to pair well with the below savory breads and sweet cake.

Smoked Chicken Apple on Sundried Tomato Foccacia - Rp. 34.000
Totally enjoyed this yummy tasty bread. Preferable to be eaten cold :)

Jalapeno Cheese Roll - Rp. 15.000
It's bread with cheese and onion that has a spicy taste from the Jalapeno.

Purple Yam Coconut Cake - Rp. 28.000
Since I'm not a coconut nor cream lover thus it's hard for me to enjoy this cake.

Sea Salt Caramel Frappuccino
Rp. 42.000 (Tall), Rp. 48.000 (Grande), Rp. 54.000 (Venti)
A unique drink from Starbucks. It's espresso and steam milk, blended with mocha sauce and toffee nut flavored syrup and topped with whipped cream, caramel sauce, trubinado sugar and sea salt that deepens the rich flavors of the coffee. It will be available starting on 13 September 2012.

Today, JenzCorner, Urukyu, The Yummy Traveler and I were invited for a fast food chain's food tasting in Grand Indonesia mall. After the food tasting session, most of us were still feeling a bit hungry because the food during the food tasting was pretty light thus we decided to look for snack and dessert inside the mall.

When we passed the Magnum Cafe, it came to our surprise there was no line of people at all as usual.  Without any second thoughts, we directly went inside it. Well, as soon as we were inside, we could see this place was almost packed. Good thing, we still got a table.



Calamari Vindaloo - Rp. 35.000
Curry fried calamari  with kafir lime sauce. The calamari was well seasoned.

Champignon Frit - Rp. 25.000
Deep fried mushrooms with tartar sauce. Nice spongy mushrooms.

Crepes de Leuven - Rp. 35.000
Black forest crepes with dark chocolate truffle magnum stick, chocolate shavings, and cherry compote. I think the sweet sour cherry compote made a balance for the overwhelmed chocolate.

I definitely will order this blended chocolate truffle magnum stick with fresh espresso and molten chocolate syrup. It's really good!

Tukang Gorengan Otak-otak Ikan (Fried Otak-otak)

Otak-otak is fish cake made from fish paste, sago flour, shallot, garlic and coconut milk. Usually here in Indonesia, otak-otak is grilled on charcoal and eaten with peanut sauce.

There's another version of Otak-otak which is being fried.

It tasted exactly like kerupuk ikan (fish crackers).

Waytuki Vegetarian Restaurant


Several months ago, I received an email from a reader. He found out my blog from his friend in Zambia. The reason why he wrote me an email is to recommend me a South Indian restaurant in Central Jakarta because it is his favorite restaurant and he always visits it whenever he comes to Jakarta.


So today, together with JenzCorner, Urukyu and Khusinbou, we gave it a try.

I like to eat Indian food though I rarely have the chance to eat it and frankly speaking, I'm not so familiar with Indian food; same thing with Urukyu and Khusinbou. Thus, we let JenzCorner to choose the food from the menu.

Biryani Meal - Rp. 32.000
Vegetable Briyani with herbs and spices served with Waytuki's side dishes and a drink (water or tea)

Papar Masala (4 pcs.) - Rp. 5.000
A delicate thin bread of minced plus flour with lemon and red chilies.

Masala Dosai - Rp. 22.000
A traditional South Indian thin bread with savory filling.

The filling of Masala Dosa are potato, onions, vegetables with spices.

Paneer Butter Masala - Rp. 33.000
Indian cottage cheese with curry sauce, tasted just like tofu.

A cool fresh chutney, perfect to be eaten with the spicy Briyani meal.
