Aerogreens salad.

My ex-student who is majoring in agriculture at a university in Canada, has just started to have his own company named Aerogreens. He explained to me that Aerogreens is Indonesia's first Vertical Aeroponics farm, which means is they grow their plants in a controlled environment, to bring out the sweetness and buttery texture of their vegetables. At Aerogreens, aside from just producing our own vegetables, they make salads as well.

All their vegetables at Aerogreens are harvested fresh to order, so nothing is stored in the fridge before hand. It's pesticide free

So, here I had a try one of the salads from Aerogreens.

Pesto Chicken Salad - Rp. 50.000

The signature lettuce, grilled chicken pesto, homemade garlic croutons, topped off with garlic herb dressing.

SaladStop!

I was not really interested when my friend suggested to have lunch at SaladStop! The reason was just simply, why only eat salad while there are so many restaurants with so many varieties of food to select. But then, my friend really tried to convince me how delicious the salads are at SaladStop! After I had my salad, it was true what my friend told me.

Hail Ceasar - Rp. 80.000 (right above)
Romaine, beef bacon, shaved parmesan, eggs, croutons, classic ceasar (add roasted chicken + Rp. 10.000). My friend ordered Hail Ceasar. I tried a little bit. The salad dressing was really good!

Tuna San - Rp. 95.000 (left bottom)
Romaine, seared tuna, avocado cherry tomatoes, edamame, mandarin orange, sesame seeds, wasabi honey soy. This Tuna San in wrapped was my choice. The Romaine leaves were very fresh and the salad dressing was  quite refreshing - sweet and sour.

Mother's Restaurant, New Orleans

When I arrived at Mother's Restaurant for lunch during my trip to New Orleans, I was so amazed how long the line was.

Unbelievable, isn't it?

But then, I actually shouldn't be too surprised to see the long line because Mother's Restaurant has been known for the world's best baked ham restaurant and established since 1938. It was founded by Simon A. Landry. During and after the World War II, Mother's became a local hang-out for “the few and the proud” – the U.S. Marine Corps. It's not only the baked ham and serving authentic New Orleans home cooking that made this place famous but also the New Orleans dishes like Jambalaya (rice cooked with chicken, homemade andouille sausage, vegetables, herbs and seasonings), Gumbo, and Shrimp Creole line-up next to the Po’ Boys such as the Ferdi Special (meaty sandwich) and the Debris po-boy (craved roast beef).

Inside the restaurant.

This is how the customers order the food.
Then, the waitress will bring the food directly to the table.

So many pictures hanging on the walls.

I looked at people's tables for what they were having for their lunch.

Another section of Mother's Restaurant that has a bar.

Green Salad - USD 6.00
All salads are prepared with vine ripened tomatoes, iceberg and romaine lettuce, fresh spinach, bell pepper, red onion and cucumber. served with choice of homemade house, blue cheese, thousand island or ranch dressing.

Fish Palate - USD 16.50
It comes with a choice of two sides - cabbage, turnip greens, potato salad, french fries, grits with butter or red beans & rice.

Soft Shell Crab Platter (2 crabs) - USD 25.50
with lemon butter sauce.

Seafood Platter - USD 22.50

This was what I ordered for my lunch.
Po' Boys Soft Shell Crab - USD 17.50
All meat po' boys dressed with shredded cabbage, sliced pickle, mayo, creole and yellow mustard.
My friend suggested me to try this delicious po' boys. First, I had no clue at all what po' boys was until it came on  the plate. By the way, I found out the history of the name po' boys came from. It refers to the sandwiches made from hot gravy and scraps of roast beef ladled onto French bread and sold to "poor boys" from the back doors of restaurants.

Look the soft shell crab. It's really soft and delicious!

The sign on the sliding door got my attention.

Close up look. Interesting, isn't it? As we all know, tipping in America is a must but at Mother's Restaurant, there's NO tipping at all!

Pecan pie - USD 5.25

Cranberry juice - USD 2.75

My friends and I enjoyed our lunch at Mother's!

Rujak Potong - cut fruit (2)

Still remember my post of the original Rujak - Indonesian fruit salad? This is another version of rujak. If the original rujak has many fruit assortments with mixed peanut brown sugar sauce for dressing, then this rujak has limited fruits assortment and instead eating it with sauce, there's salt mixed with chopped hot red chili to substitute the sauce.

The limited assortment of the fruits are Mango (mangga), Water Apple (jambu air), Ambarella (kedondong) and Jicama (bangkuang).

But then, as you can see in the behind glass box, the vendor also sells Water Apple, Mango and Pineapple seperately in plastic bags.

Salt mixed with chopped red hot chili for the dipping.

After a little break from my street food posts, now I'm back again with the Rujak (Indonesian fruit salad) post :)

Rujak Juhi is another kind of rujak but although the name is rujak, it doesn't contain of any fruits except if cucumber is consider as a fruit.

Juhi means salted cuttlefish in Indonesian language.

The ingredients:

From left to right: peanut sauce (made from ground fried peanut, garlic, hot chili, shallot, sugar, salt, vinegar, water, sweet soybean sauce), fried shreddered cuttlefish, and kaffir lime.

You can ask Rujak Juhi for a "take-out".

Sweet soysauce and kaffir lime juice.

Final touch, kerupuk (shrimp crakers/chips) on the top plus hot red chili sauce on the side. Yummy! :)

A plate of Rujak Juhi costs Rp. 9.000
Currency:

Rujak Tumbuk/ Bèbèk (Pound/Crushed Fruit Salad)

"Tumbuk" means pound or crush, so since the ingredients (fruits and dressing) is being pound together in a wooden mortar, thus we called it as "Rujak Tumbuk".

Some people also called it as Rujak Bèbèk since this rujak is originally a Betawi food (Betawi is addressed for the descendants people who live in Batavia - the old colonial name for Jakarta). In Betawi language, "Bèbèk" means also pound/crush. It's pronounce differently than the word "Bebek" which means duck in Indonesian national language.

The fruits: raw sweet potato, pineapple, lobi-lobi, banana stone, jicama, papaya, ambarella, and young mango.

The ingredients to make the sauce:

And not forgetting the brown coconut sugar (gula jawa).

Pound the fruits together with the ingredients of the sauce.

It's done :)

A good idea to make a long spoon with a wooden stick ;)

rujak tumbuk 4

Rp. 4.000 per cup
(currency 1 USD = Rp. 11.600)

Out of the topic - Someone plagiarized my posts!!! :(

Yesterday, while browsing on the internet, I found out an Indonesian girl who owns a food blog, has been taking my posts and published them in her blog. She just copy paste directly my posts - text and photos (of course, she cropped the photos first to delete my blog address).

Well, this is not the first time when I found out people are using my photos in their blogs but for this case, just copy paste directly my whole text plus photos and without a permission from me and pretends the posts are hers, gosh... how could she!!! I already left a complain comment in her blog but there's no reaction so far from her.

Actually, I have no problem if people want to use my photos (I even feel flattered) but then, I expect that at least, they'll put a credit to my blog and not use my text as if they are the ones who wrote the post.

Grrrrrr..... I'm soooooooo upset!!! :(
