Nannini Plaza Indonesia

Nannini, a restaurant established since 1995 located in Plaza Senayan, has opened its new restaurant in Plaza Indonesia. The menu is full of varieties, local and also western dishes. Many new dishes are created by the Executive Chef Francis Lim.

To celebrate the new opening in Plaza Indonesia, some food bloggers and I were invited by Goorme.com to attend Nanini's Menu Tasting last night.

Warm, cozy and friendly casual dining concept.

So, how's the food tasting? This is the question that I received from some people who knew that I attended this event since last night until this afternoon. Here's my story of the event:

5.30 PM
I arrived together with JenzCorner. We were greeted by the Goorme.com then we found a table where The Gastronomy Aficionado sat together with his lovely wife. A few minutes later, a small glass filled with a drink called Beetle juice was served. Then, we had to fill a form and were given a discount card valid for a year.

Beetle Juice - Rp. 35.000
Combination of Orange, Pineapple, Mango, Kiwi and fresh Passion pulp.

Later on, Abigail and Culinary Bonanza joined our table.

6.00 PM
The Operation Manager and Executive Chef Francis Lim gave an opening speech.

6. 15 PM
The Operation Manager showed how to make the newest creation of Nannini's cocktail.

7.15 PM
Each table was served one glass of Pineapple and Cinnamon Roshka.

Cocktails
Left: Pineapple and Cinnamon Roshka - Rp. 80.000
Vodka, Pineapple liquer, Pineapple lime wedge, Cinnamon, mix Sugar

Right: Shangria - Rp. 125.000
Fruits and Red Wine

7.10 PM
A quiz for getting a Nannini's voucher valued Rp. 200.000. Congratulations to The Gastronomy Aficionado's wife! :)

7.21 PM
Finally after waiting for 2 hours, the appetizer was served. The Wild Mushroom soup was totally wonderful especially for a starving stomach.

Nannini Wild Mushroom Soup - Rp. 50.000
A soft velvety cream soup blended with a medley of Wild Mushrooms and drizzled with Truffle oil.

So, what did we do to kill the the time while waiting for the food:
-  we had a lot of fun conversation, even Abigail and I shared pictures of our dogs.
-  we watched the finalist ladyboy - Bell Nuntita from the Thailand's Got Talent on youtube
- JenzCorner managed to play  a game on her iPad several times.
The Gastronomy Aficionado even went twice to the restroom.
- Updated status on twitter.

8.27 PM
Can't believe it that we had to wait for another hour to have the main course on our table. Then, another surprise, one plate with those small size of food had to be shared with another person and we were all so hungry :(

Thus, JenzCorner and I shared the food on this plate together.

Nannini Cordon Bleu - Rp. 75.000
Tender chicken breast stuffed with smoked beef and cheddar cheese, served with potato fries and red wine gravy.

Nannini Striploin
Grilled striploin served with mashed potato and creamy champignon sauce
(Note: I'm not so sure whether this is a new menu because I can't find Striploin on the menu. On the menu, it shows "200 gr Beef Sirloin - Rp. 195.000". For sure, Striploin is different than Sirloin. What I know, Striploin is the part behind the short loin of the cow (above the tenderloin). Striploin is cut from the short loin section (between the rib and sirloin) of the cow. Btw, sirloin is more flavorful than striploin, though it's much more tough, and the cooking method to tenderize it is different)

Nannini Salmon - Rp. 85.000
Grilled fresh Norwegian salmon served with mesclun salad tossed in balsamic dressing and drizzled with special Nannini's home sauce.

8.36 PM
The waiters brought a glass of Shangria to each table.

8.54 PM
The famous Nannini Tiramisu being served. Luckily for this dessert, each of us received one piece of the Tiramisu cake - no need to share. So glad that this delicious Tiramisu closed the menu tasting.

Nannini Tiramisu - Rp. 65.000
Mascarpone mousse covered sponge cake drenched in Kahlua and Baileys.

9.15 PM
The Operation Manager gave 2 more quizzes for the invitees and a closing speech.

9.20 PM
The event ended.

Thank you for inviting me, Goorme.com! And, thanks for the menu tasting, Nannini!

Paulaner Bräuhaus Jakarta

Mom's birthday was celebrated at Paulaner Bräuhaus, located in the upper upscale East Mall, Grand Indonesia Shopping Town. It's also a part of Hotel Indonesia Kempinski Jakarta.

A sophisticated Bavarian ambiance and dominated with wooden furniture.

Paulaner Bräuhaus used to have microbrewery but at this moment, they are not brewing nor serving until further notice. I heard that actually the Paulaner beers, either the light or dark tasted very good because the beers are tapped fresh and with lots of fizz.

As recommended by the waiter, we had:

Paulaner platter  - Rp. 250.000
Smoked pork chop (Kassler), 1 Thüringer sausage (Thüringer Wurst), Meatloaf (Leberkäse), 2 Vienna Sausages (Wiener Würstchen), 2 Nuremberger sausages (Nürnberger Wurst) and crispy pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe) served with sauerkraut and mashed potatoes (Kartoffelpüree).
It's definitely more than enough for two persons. The smoked pork chop was tender, the sausages were meaty and totally addictive, the meatloaf was flavorful, the pork knuckle was really succulent with wonderful crispy skin, the sauerkraut was perfect, not too sour nor too bland, and the mashed potatoes, it's delectable! The best mashed potatoes I've ever eaten in Jakarta. It's creamy, fluffy, and so smooth that gave me a comforting feeling :)

Crispy pork knuckle (Schweinshaxe)

For dessert, mom and I chose:

Home-made warm Apple Strudel with vanilla sauce - Rp. 50.000
Hausgemachter Apfelstrudel mit Vanillesosse
The apple strudel didn't meet the expectation especially when you already used to eat the original apple strudel in Germany where it doesn't taste with an excess of sweetness and the grated apple still has a nice fresh sour flavor. The Paulaner's apple strudel was actually pretty aromatic from the cinnamon and the pastry was light yet firm but again, the filling was cloying and got overwhelmed raisins inside it. When the waitress came and asked how's the food, my mom and I told her that we were quite disappointed with the apple strudel. Later on, I found out that the chef for the pastry and bakery here is from Australia. Oh... No wonder...

Bali Porkis

Bali Porkis tweeted and asked me whether I want to try their products. First, I wasn't aware at all what's their product. Then, later on, I found out that Bali Porkis is the first company from Bali that sells frozen grilled ribs in vacuum packaging. Bali Porkis products are sent directly from Bali to Jakarta, Bandung and Yogyakarta. I got curious and agreed to try their 2 products.

Bali Porkis frozen products.

It's very easy to serve it. It only need to be microwave  for 2 - 3 minutes at high level or steam  for 10 - 15 minutes.

Pork Rendang  (Rendang Babi)
weight: 500 grams, price: Rp. 85.000
The meat in the authentic Rendang dish is usually beef but Bali Porkis substitutes the beef with pork. This Pork Rendang is very delicious. The meat is so tender and moist. The Rendang gravy is not as spicy as the usual Beef Rendang at Padang restaurants which is perfect for me since I'm not really into hot spicy food.

Sweet Spicy Ribs (Iga Bakar Pedes Manis)
weight: 300 grams, price: Rp. 50.000
This sweet spicy ribs will be enjoyed by the ones who love to eat hot spicy food. Again, the meat is moist, tender and very well seasoned.

The other products are Black Pepper Ribs (Rp. 50.000), Honey Ribs (Rp. 55.000), and Rica-rica Pork (Rp. 55.000).

New a la Carte Menu at Scusa

Today, I had a chance to try the new finest selection of authentic Italian dishes at Scusa Restaurant, InterContinental Jakarta MidPlaza Hotel. It's a truly fabulous experience to try some of the new a la carte menu with 23 mouth-watering Italian dishes created by Gary Palm, the Executive Chef together with Wawan Barito Setiawan, the Sous Chef of Scusa Restaurant. I really enjoyed every bites of the dishes on my plates.

Appetizers & Salad

Pan-fried maize dusted foie gras - Rp. 144.000
on dried fruit and nut bread with balsamico glazed apples.
The combination between each of the ingredients was lovely.

Pan seared sea scallops - Rp. 154.000
on beetroot salsa, avocado, marinated seaweed and saffron emulsion.

Broiled duck breast - Rp. 155.000
with warm cheese, julienne of vegetables, walnut glazed and port-apple sauce.
The duck breast was absolutely juicy and tender.

Buffalo mozzarella - Rp. 103.000
semi-dried tomatoes and rocket leaves and black pepper.

Soup

Zuppa di pesce - Rp. 66.000
seafood soup with clams, squid, salmon, snapper and prawns.
I adore the soup. It tasted refreshing with perfect balance of tanginess with all the other ingredients.

Main courses

Roast dover sole fillet - Rp. 210.000
with zucchini, sundried tomato, semolina dumpling and pesto sauce.
Everyone's favorite from all the 3 main courses. Seriously, it surpasses my expectations! Very scrumptious!

Braised angus short rib - Rp. 195.000
with asparagus, polenta and pesto.
The braised angus short rib was great. It's succulent and bursting with flavor.

Linguine al nero di sepia con capesante, salmone e calamari - Rp. 125.000
Squid ink linguini with scallops, salmon and calamari.
It tasted a bit blunt for me as I was expecting for richer taste but it had still a nice taste.

Dessert

Scusa's molten chocolate cake Rp. 64.000
with rum-raisin ice cream and vanilla sauce.
A sinful dessert that  I totally couldn't resist it.

Drinks

Moctails Fantasia - Rp. 55.000
Orange, lychee, mango,  grenadine syrup.
Pretty refreshing especially on a hot day like today :)

Illy Cofee Cappuccino  - Rp. 45.000
The cappuccino was to complete and end my dining experience at Scusa :)

Kamikaze Karaage

Kamikaze, Crispy chicken, Japanese style!

As the logo says, Kamikaze Kaarage is a contemporary Japanese fast food specializing in crispy chicken.

I was recommended to try the set menu "Kamikaze Moriawase". Here is how to order the set menu (the bold ones were my choices from the options):

Step 1,  choose the meat:
Tebasaki (Chicken Wings)
Other options: Karaage (boneless), Mixed (Yakiniku and Karaage), Yakiniku.
As I was expecting, the chicken wings were so wonderful tasty, moist and crunchy for the skin. Love eating the chicken wings though it's more nibble than bite, but hey, it's fun! :)

Step 2, choose the sauce:
Teriyaki sauce (original Japanese taste)
Other sauces: - Kaffir lime shoyu (sweet and sour), Kuro Kosho (black pepper), Banzai (sweet spicy), Kamikaze (hot spicy, ).
Kamikaze is claimed as the hottest chili pepper on earth. No wonder when I tried to taste a bit of the Kamikaze sauce, seriously it felt like my tongue was on fire!

Step 3, choose 2 small sides
Chiizu Korokke (Japanese croquette).
Shishito Tempura (Japanese peppers battered and deep fried).
Other options: Tofu Furai, Tori Fireball, Gyoza, Yasai Itame, Kakitama Soup, Kimuchi Slaw or Kani Corn Salad.

Step 4:
Gohan: Japanese cooked white rice
Other options: Kimuchi Chahan, Large Fries.

Step 5: Choose a drink.
Cold Ocha - Green Tea (free for refill).
I was quite surprise to see the color of green tea. It's so greeeeeeennnn!!! Usually the green tea in Japanese restaurants that I used to drink, is not as green as in here. The aroma of the green tea is also different, I find it more fragrant but not like the ordinary green tea.

The Kamikaze Moriawase comes in a wooden tray:
Tebasaki Moriawase - Rp. 35.454

By the way, I got the chance to try the new dessert in Kamikaze. It's not available yet, hopefully very soon.

Früitis Kioko
Grape flavor drink with yogurt.

Purin Pudding
Japanese custard pudding. A delicious creamy and smooth texture pudding with caramel sauce.

Mushi Pan
Japanese steamed egg cake with 3 flavors: Green Tea, Chocolate and Hokkaido Milk
For me, the Mushi Pan Chocolate became the winner because the Mushi Pan Green Tea had a flaky texture, then the Mushi Pan Hokkaido Milk had a peculiar flavor.
