Pandan Bistro

Last night, my mom's friend from Canada invited her friends for a farewell dinner at her favorite restaurant named Pandan Bistro. Whenever she comes to visit Jakarta, it's a must for her to dine at this place. It's located in North Jakarta and serves Indonesian food.

If I'm not mistaken, the owner of Pandan Bistro is still a relative of the owner of Pondok Laguna (a quite famous Seafood restaurant in Central Jakarta). Well, in my opinion especially because I love eating at Pondok Laguna, I find that the food here at Pandan Bistro is palatable.

Total of 12 people.

White Rice.
Gurame Kipas Goreng.
(Fried Carp Fish)
Tahu Kipas
(literally translation: Fan tofu - Fried Tofu with filling )
Inside the fried tofu:
shrimp, grated carrot and spring onion.

Sayur Genjer
(Yellow velvet leaf with salted soybean and chili)

Udang sambal petai

(Shrimp with stinky beans and chili)Keripik Kentang
(Potato chips with brown sugar and chili)

Gulai Kepala Ikan
(Fish Head Curry)

Daun Singkong

(Cassava leaves cooked with tumeric and coconut milk)

Gulai Ayam
(Chicken curry)

Bunga Pepaya
(Sauteed Papaya Flower,
it tasted very bitter)

Terong cabe
(Eggplant cooked with red chili)

Es Merah Delima
(A dessert made from tapioca flour and jicama that resembles pomegranate, young coconut with coconut milk and brown sugar)

Address:
Pandan Bistro
Jl. Pluit Indah No. 20
Jakarta Utara

  2. I love learning how Indonesian cuisine uses things that I'd never even considered like cassava leaves and papaya flowers. So interesting! I'm not a big fan of tofu, but stuffed with all those goodies I might change my mind. The dessert sounds so delicious.

  12. I'm impressed with the air inside the fried tofu. So puffy :). I haven't had chips themselves as a dish before, but I guess you could say the same for french fries.

  18. Yum! I don't recognize most of these dishes, but the restaurant certainly looks like a place to hit up in Jakarta. By the way, what are stinky beans? Are they actually stinky?

  19. Thanks to everyone who has left a comment here :)

mica: Yes, stinky beans is stink especially because it contains amino acids thus it gives a very strong odor when you urinate after eating this stinky beans. There are many other names for stinky beans: petai, bitter bean, sataw, twisted cluster bean, yongchaa, yongchaak, or zawngtah. As for the latin name is Parkia Speciosa.

  23. Pondok Laguna is one of my fave restaurant and Pandan Bistro seems to have identical menu except that the Tahu Kipas in PL seemed to have slightly different filling.

Gosh, I wish I know how to fry that Ikan Goreng.
