Cheese Cake with RUF Käsekuchen Hilfe

Mom and I made cheese cake together last Sunday :) Actually we divided the task, mom was responsible for the crust and I was responsible for the filling.

In order to make a successful classic German cheese cake, we used the Käsekuchen Hilfe - Cheese cake aid from RUF (a German product).

The recipe:
Cheesecake Crust:
200 gr Flour
3 gr baking powder
75 gr butter
75 gr sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla
1 egg

Cheesecake Filling:
750 gr Quark cheese (or light sour cream)
150 gr sugar
4 egg yolks
4 egg whites
1/2 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp grated citron skin
250 ml milk
1 sachet of RUF Käsekuchenhilfe

For the crust:
Mix all the ingredients for the crust then transfer the dough to a 26 - 28 cm removable-bottom tart pan. Roll and press firmly the 2 / 3 of the dough on the bottom and the remaining dough shaping from the edge until approx. 3 cm up sides the pan.

For the filling:
Place the light sour cream (quark), 100 gr sugar, 4 egg yolks, vanilla, grated citron's skin in a bowl. Mix them together until smooth.
In another bowl, teat 4 egg whites with 50 gr sugar until firm then pour it to the other bowl of the cheese cake mixture.
Add one sachet of RUF Käsekuchenhilfe and one cup of milk.
Mix well then fill into to the prepared baking pan with crust.
Bake at 350F (175C) on the middle rack for approximately 70 minutes.

A Hwa - Peking Duck

Lately, in the evenings, on my way home, this new little restaurant has been attracting me with the bright lights on the hanging roasted ducks. Thus, a few days ago, I got tempted to try it. Beside the roasted ducks, they also sell roasted chicken and also roasted pork. If I'm not mistaken the ducks are dipped into a mix sauce made from water, honey, dry sherry, white vinegar, and anise; before being roasted.

I bought 1/2 duck for dinner. It costed only Rp. 60.000 (less than USD 6). My mom and I were very impressed with the taste of the roasted duck. Although the skin was not crispy nor glassy as it supposedly to be, but the meat was very soft, tender and also juicy. In addition, it had a nice distinctive flavor. The chili sauce (made from chilies, plum sauce, sugar, vinegar, and ginger) was so perfect as a condiment to eat the roasted duck.
Definitely, I will come back again to buy the roasted duck and probably also to try their other roasted meat :)

Restaurant Trio

Yesterday, my Ex- Boss, brought me to this old Chinese restaurant named "Restaurant Trio". This restaurant was established in 1947 and is quite well known for the delicious taste until today. My Boss told me during his university time around 1960s, that this restaurant became a favorite place. He and his college friends would eat often at this place for celebrations like graduations or birthdays.

It's a very humble restaurant. There's no air-conditioner, only fan.
The Menu is on the wall
The restaurant is not big, probably just about 10 tables.
You will be "greeted" by a shoeshine man at the entrance door. Then, a magazine vendor is selling around from one table to the other table.

I ordered a glass of passion fruit (Markisa) which cost Rp. 7.500.
The 3 kind of chilies are for free but the small plate of cucumber pickle (acar ketimun) costs Rp. 2.000.

My boss ordered his favorite dishes. First is the shrimp balls soup (Baso Udang Kuah) for appetizer. I think it's a very nice choice as an opening for the full meal. The shrimp balls tasted flavorful with a bit of chewy texture.

Fried frogs with butter sauce (Kodok goreng saus mentega) is wonderful. The first bite, you can feel the crispy part then follows by the inside soft tender meat from the legs' frogs fried with salty butter and sweet soy sauce plus a bit of kaffir lime juice on the top which made the aroma of this dish nicely.

This below dish - Huis Pot Babi, was my favorite. It's fried pork wrapped in batter, and mashed potato on the side. The fried pork is boneless and crispy. The mashed potato is an old Dutch style where the potato is not smooth nor creamy, and has little cubes of carrots in it. It's served with sliced tomatoes and cucumber.

Ayam Nanking means Nanking Chicken. Nanking is a name of a town in China, I guess this dish came from Nanking :) It's sliced chicken layered with ham and also minced prawns then dipped into batter before being fried, then later on before we eat it, we squeeze a kaffir lime on it. This dish is very flavorful.
All the dishes are eaten with white rice.

At the end of the lunch, I thanked my boss for the scrumptious lunch :)

Huize Trivelli

My friend has been telling me about this interesting heritage restaurant and patisserie named "Huize Trivelli" that serves traditional Indonesian dishes that have been adjusted to Dutch dishes or vice versa.

So yesterday, my friend brought me to this restaurant for a nice lunch :)

As soon as, I entered I directly could feel the peaceful and nice ambiance with nice old Indonesian songs mixed with Dutch language being played in the background in the restaurant.

This restaurant was built in the late 1930s as a home for a Dutch family. FYI, Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for 300 years. And since 2006, this family home has been converted into a restaurant.

Huize Trivelli's decoration is based on the antique Javanese - European and Chinese cultural traditions.

I guess enough introduction of the restaurant and without further ado, let's get right into the pictures to tell more ;)
